Will DOJ Block Halliburton's Baker Hughes Buyout?

Halliburton's (HAL) purchase of Baker Hughes (BHI) has Justice Department lawyers worried that the deal will stifle competition in the oilfield services market, despite Halliburton's plans to sell assets, sources told Bloomberg. The Justice Department's antitrust division is reviewing the $34.6 billion transaction that would combine the No. 2 and No. 3 companies, which could then challenge the world's top service provider, Schlumberger (SLB).
