Toronto neurosurgeon charged with the first-degree murder of woman who died of strangulation

TORONTO — A doctor who spent eight years as a resident at The Ottawa Hospital has been charged with first-degree murder after another doctor’s body was found by the side of a road in Vaughan on Thursday afternoon.

Dr. Mohammed Shamji, a 40-year-old Toronto neurosurgeon, was arrested Friday night at a coffee shop in Mississauga. According to his LinkedIn profile, Shamji spent eight years at The Ottawa Hospital as a neurosurgery resident.
