State grossly undercounted utility poles for town-owned fiber network, Charlemont officials tell Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito

The miscount occurred before Gov. Charlie Baker shook up the Massachusetts Broadband Institute, said MBI chairman Peter Larkin.

CHARLEMONT -- The Massachusetts Broadband Institute undercounted utility poles here by 40 percent, grossly underestimating the cost of building a town-owned fiber optic network, local officials told Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito on Tuesday.
