Smoking has risen 50% in Africa over 35 years even as it drops in high-income regions

Big Tobacco’s fasting growing markets are in Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean where regulations are lax and populations are growing, according to the latest edition of the Tobacco Atlas.

Smoking has declined in high-income countries, which the report ascribes to increased regulation, monitoring, and taxation.
