I still miss Freddy’s Backroom, the Brooklyn neighborhood dive bar that was razed to make room for the bicycle racks behind the Barclays Center. But as a hockey fan, it’s exciting to have the New York Islanders in my backyard again. I grew up on Long Island, not far from the Nassau Coliseum. I could see its roof from my bedroom window—at least in the winter, when the trees were bare.
