‘Selfless’ 28-year-old dies trying to save her beloved dog on highway

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. – Friends and family are mourning a 28-year-old Virginia woman who was killed Saturday night while trying to catch her dog after it ran onto the highway.

Family members told WTVR that 28-year-old Kate Mason had a natural urge to protect people and animals, which tragically led to her death.

Virginia State Police said the incident happened just before 10 p.m. along I-95 less than a mile from the exit for Route 627 in Stafford County.
