Sculptures made from discarded tree trunks look like they belong in a dream

At first glance, South Korean artist Jae-Hyo Lee’s creations might look like they came from a dream or a surreal painting, but they’re actually sculptures made from discarded pieces of wood.

To form geometric shapes like spheres and columns – as well as furniture – out of logs, Lee employs a special technique he’s developed. He first assembles the pieces then carefully torches the wood, charring the surface black. He then polishes the surface, creating a striking contrast...
