Sculpting whales from soggy sand still fun at Festival of Whales

DANA POINT — Festival of Whale enthusiasts were out in Dana Point Harbor, Saturday, March 2, opening day of the annual event celebrating the gray whale migration. The festival continues Sunday and March 9 and 10.

The migration — a 10,000- to 12,000-mile journey from their feeding ground in the Bering Sea to the warm lagoons of Baja, where many whale calves are born — is the reason hundreds of thousands of Southern Californians come to Dana Point in early March.
