Red Sox notebook: Rehabbing with Pawtucket, shortstop Xander Bogaerts hopes to be back in lineup Friday at Fenway

TORONTO — Ticket-holders to Friday’s homestand opener at Fenway against the Rays should be greeted by the sight of Xander Bogaerts playing shortstop.

That’s the optimistic forecast given by Red Sox manager Alex Cora before last night’s game against the Blue Jays. Sidelined since April 9 with a left ankle injury, Bogaerts has gradually ramped up his rehab. He flew here Monday to work out for the team and looked good enough to send to Triple-A Pawtucket.
