Red Sox notebook: Alex Cora surprised released slugger Hanley Ramirez hasn’t hooked on with another club

SEATTLE — Three weeks ago, the Red Sox designated Hanley Ramirez for assignment.

He’s still not playing baseball.

With a $22 million salary this year and a pending option for the same salary next year if he accumulates 497 plate appearances, it was a given the Sox would not be able to trade him. They released him a week later.

But a full two weeks have gone by with Ramirez free to sign with any team for the league minimum salary. And it hasn’t happened.
