Polish Lawmakers Advance Legislation Giving Parliament More Power Over Courts

Poland's lower house of parliament has overwhelmingly approved legislation that gives lawmakers more control over the selection of judges, in defiance of warnings from the European Union.  The new legislation allows lawmakers to choose members of the National Judiciary Council, which appoints judges.
