Oregon man uses fake pipe bomb to steal ice cream, beer

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Detectives have charged a man after they say he used a fake pipe bomb to rob a local convenience store.

Theodore Clifton Compton is charged with one count each of second-degree robbery and unlawful possession of a hoax destructive device.

He was arrested near the intersection of Southeast 116th and Southeast Holgate. Portland Police were initially dispatched around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday to the Plaid Pantry in the 4500 block of Southeast 122nd on reports of a robbery.
