Notorious Siberian prison that housed Fyodor Dostoyevsky is open for tourists to spend the night

Tobolsk Prison Castle was built in the late 19th century and kept some of the world’s most famous intellects and criminals imprisoned. Fyodor Dostoyevsky, the world’s greatest writer (that’s fact!) spent ten days here in 1850 before he was transferred to Omsk for four years of hard labour.

In 1917, the Bolsheviks overran the place and imprisoned Tsar Nicholas II and his family, while more than 2500 political prisoners were executed against the walls.

The prison closed in 1989, but...
