New Jersey school has recipe to cut down on food waste

GARFIELD, N.J. — America wastes 40% of all our food. That’s $165 billion in the trash each year, according to a study by the National Resources Defense Council.

But some local students are making an effort to change that.

"Unbelievable. The amount comes up to the sharing table everyday is astronomical,” said Annette Psihoules, a social studies teacher at Bergen Arts & Science Charter School in Garfield, New Jersey.

Students call it a ‘sharing table’ or a ‘sharing bucket’.
