Marine buried buddies at Iwo Jima

As the epic battle for Iwo Jima raged on, Albert Richards helped bury the American dead in body bags in the black sand to be retrieved later — until he couldn’t take it anymore.

“We’d pull off one dog tag, leave one tag on the body and write it up. Well I didn’t like it, particularly when I saw a couple of my buddies and I said, ‘I can’t do it,'” the 93-year-old U.S. Marine veteran said.
