Luke Walton is going back to Cali. The Los Angeles Lakers announced they hired the Golden State Warriors assistant coach and former Lakers player to be their next head coach Friday.
Walton coached the Warriors for the first 43 games this year in relief of Steve Kerr, who was recovering from back surgery. He went 39-4 and led the defending NBA champions to a record 24-0 start.
The Lakers wasted no time in finding a replacement for Byron Scott to usher in the post-Kobe Bryant era.
