Light quake east of Whittier felt across wide area

An earthquake Wednesday morning in the Prince William Sound region was felt lightly on the Kenai Peninsula and Anchorage, according to the U.S. Geological Survey Alaska Earthquake Center.

The 8:44 a.m. quake had a preliminary magnitude of 4.1 and was located about three miles deep about 40 miles east of Whittier and almost 60 miles southwest of Valdez, the center posted on its website Wednesday.

No damage was reported, the center said.
