June 19th 1867: The last Emperor of Mexico was executed by rebels

Today, 150 years ago, the last emperor of Mexico, Maximilian I. , archduke of Austria and younger brother of Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I. was executed by rebels after he was deceived by his french allies. This event broke the alliance between France and the Austro-Hungarian Empire and set the stage of strange alliances that led to WW1.
