Huntington Beach starts football season with strong effort, rolls to victory over Canyon

ANAHEIM – Huntington Beach lost its quarterback by way of a transfer, but it didn’t lose a step in Brady Gardner’s debut.

The junior had no pressure on him with Arick McLawyer, who moved from QB to running back this season, in the backfield with him. McLawyer rushed for two scores while Gardner threw for two scores in Huntington Beach’s 41-15 nonleague victory over Canyon on Friday night at El Modena High.
