Housing, gasoline push Southern California inflation to fastest rate since 2008

Your checkbook’s hunch is correct: Inflation is rising significantly.

The most widely watched government benchmark for the local cost of living rose 3.8 percent in the 12 months through March for Los Angeles and Orange counties, the biggest year-over-year jump since September 2008. This local consumer price index, which through last year covered all of Southern California, rose 2.8 percent in 2017 and 1.9 percent in 2016.
