Ronnie Devoe is an American R&B and soul singer. He was a member of two popular R&B Groups, New Edition, and Bell Biv Devoe. Fun fact: his second group with a former member of New Edition is much more successful.

Early Career Success

Ronnie owes much of his success to his uncle. Brook Paine was a choreographer for New Edition at the time. He brought Ronnie into the band. Their success quickly caught the attention of Maurice Starr, a record producer.

New Edition finished second in a singing competition in 1982. After that, they signed a deal with Maurice Starr and his Streetwise record label. They became one of the most successful R&B acts of the 1980s.

New Edition broke up in 1990. This left Ronnie with a choice of whether to pursue a solo career or start a new band. He opted for the latter, forming a group with Ricky Bell and Michael Bivins. Their new group was Bell Biv Devoe.

With the new group, Ronnie owned the 1990s, selling more copies with their debut album than New Edition. They still perform regularly. Bill Bev Devoe released their fourth album in 2017.

Devoe was the second-to-last member to join New Edition. From there, his career took off. In 1996, Ronnie and other original members of New Edition reunited. They released the album Home Again and went on a tour in 1997. With two successful bands behind him, his net worth is $15 million. He earned most of his money through record sales and tours.

Discography

Ronnie was part of the two highest-selling albums of New Edition and Bell Biv Devoe. The three highest selling albums are:

  • New Edition, released in 1984, sold 2 million copies
  • All For Love, released in 1988, sold more than 1 million copies
  • Poison, the debut album for Bell Biv Devoe, released in 1990, sold more than 5 million copies

All in all, New Edition released seven studio albums. Four of them received platinum certification. Their debut album was Candy Girl in 1983.

Bell Biv Devoe released four studio albums, with Poison reaching 4xPlatinum status.

Both groups have compilation and greatest hits albums as well. New Edition even released two holiday-themed albums, Christmas All Over the World in 1985, and The Christmas Collection in 2004.

In 1991, Bell Biv Devoe received the award for Best R&B/Urban Contemporary Album of the Year. They also won group, band, or duo award at the Soul Train Music Awards. You can say the album Poison is the most successful in Ronnie Devoe’s career. BBD also received an American Music Award for Favorite Soul Band/Duo/Group in 1992.

Personal Life

Music runs in the Devoe family. Ronnie married Shamari Fears, the lead singer of the R&B group Blaque. The couple got married on March 10, 2005. They keep their family life secret and do not talk a lot about their dating life. Since they got together, they live a blissful life.

After one decade of marriage, they welcomed their new members in 2017. They got twins, naming them Ronald and Roman.

Ronnie is quite active on social media. He has more than 500k followers on Instagram, and 100k followers on Twitter. Mostly, he uses social media to show pictures of his sons and family time. He doesn’t use his social media accounts for earnings and endorsements.

One might say he doesn’t need it.
