Encounters with the French version of FedEx

My encounters with the French bureaucracies, public and private, have been relatively benign during the 40 years I have been traveling throughout the realm of the Fifth Republic. Oh, sure, in the 1970s, making a phone call home from France was practically an all-day sucker. That you can now be walking across the Pont Neuf and chatting, relatively cheaply, with your daughter 6,000 miles away through your Air Buds is one small sign that there is such a thing as progress in this world....
