East Boston residents ordered to evacuate as fire raged

Embers and acrid smoke from a raging fire at a casket company forced residents of Orient Heights in East Boston to evacuate Friday, with the blaze flaring up anew after dark and lighting up the sky.

The nine-alarm blaze had Mayor Martin Walsh and fire Commissioner Joe Finn urging everyone to stay away from the billowing clouds of smoke as a precaution because of chemicals used on the wood burning inside the building.
