Cherishing Easter sacrifices great and small in Boston

Participating in the Good Friday Stations of the Cross in Boston’s South End has always been one of my favorite religious experiences.

People dressed as Roman soldiers lead a condemned Jesus through the streets — with your aching heart taken back to how it must have been in Palestine. Our savior is dressed in a purple robe, a crown of thorns on his head, on the way to Golgotha (Place of the Skull) to be crucified.

Actually watching the reenactment is emotional. The service began outside...
