Big Bear bald eagle chicks named ‘Cookie’ and ‘Simba’ by Southern California schoolchildren

Those two Big Bear bald eagle babies that captured Southern Californians’ imagination this spring have names, thanks to nominations from youngsters in Orange County and Rancho Cucamonga and a final decision from kids in the San Bernardino Mountains.

“It’s hard to tell them apart,” said Sandy Steers, executive director of Friends of Big Bear Valley. “But the one that is a little bit bigger, the older one, is Simba, and the younger one is Cookie.”
