Anchorage police request public do not ask their iPhones to 'call 108'

Anchorage police are requesting people do not ask Apple iPhones' virtual assistant Siri to call 108, because the directive prompts a local emergency call.

The police department said there is an article circulating on social media that suggests people tell Siri to "call 108."

The three digits "appear to be an emergency number for people in India, but in the United States smartphones are translating that number to emergency services," police said. In other words, phones dial 911.
