A Christmas gift gladly returned

The country’s longest-running production of Langston Hughes’ classic “Black Nativity” will open its 2017 season this week, infused with a rich dose of history.

“It started 47 years ago as a Christmas gift to the city of Boston, and each year it grows bigger and bigger,” said Voncille Ross, the show’s director. “It’s a message of hope, and for a lot of people it starts their Christmas holiday cheer.”
