ROBERTA, GEORGIA β€” The National Weather Service office in Peachtree City issued a tornado warning on June 18 for portions of four central Georgia counties, alerting residents to seek immediate shelter as radar detected a rotating thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado.

The warning was issued at 7:41 p.m. EDT and remained in effect until 8:15 p.m. EDT, covering west central Bibb County, southwestern Monroe County, southeastern Upson County, and northern Crawford County.

Storm Location and Movement

At 7:40 p.m. EDT, the severe thunderstorm was located over Logtown, approximately 10 miles northwest of Roberta, according to the National Weather Service. The storm was moving northeast at 35 mph.

Forecasters identified the threat based on radar-indicated rotation within the storm, a sign that tornado development was possible or already underway.

Communities in the Warning Area

The National Weather Service identified several communities in the path of the storm, including Roberta, Culloden, Salem, Sandy Point, Russellville, Musella, and Knoxville.

Residents in those areas were urged to take cover immediately in a sturdy structure, away from windows.

Expected Impacts

Officials warned that flying debris posed a serious danger to anyone caught outside or without adequate shelter during the storm. The National Weather Service cautioned that mobile homes faced a high risk of damage or destruction.

Impacts included potential damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles, as well as significant tree damage throughout the affected area, according to the warning from NWS Peachtree City.
