REIDSVILLE, GEORGIA β€” The Ohoopee River near Reidsville reached minor flood stage Thursday morning, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a flood warning that remains in effect until Friday morning at 10:24 a.m.

The river reached 11.6 feet at 9 a.m. Thursday, exceeding the 11-foot flood stage, according to the National Weather Service Charleston office. Minor flooding is occurring and forecast to continue through Thursday night.

Community Impact

At the current river level of 11.6 feet, water has entered the back yards of some homes in the Joy Bluff community. The flood stage threshold of 11.0 feet triggers these impacts in the residential area.

Weather officials report that minor flooding is both occurring now and expected to persist until the river falls below flood stage late Thursday night.

River Forecast

The Ohoopee River is expected to begin receding late Thursday night and continue falling throughout the weekend. Forecasters predict the river will drop to 7.2 feet by Tuesday morning, well below the 11-foot flood stage.

The flood warning, issued at 10:09 a.m. Thursday, will remain active until 10:24 a.m. Friday as water levels gradually return to normal. Residents in flood-prone areas should continue monitoring conditions and avoid walking or driving through flooded roadways.

The National Weather Service advises that even minor flooding can create hazardous conditions and urges residents to stay informed about changing river levels through official weather updates.
