KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI — The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory Monday morning for parts of east central and northeast Kansas and central and west central Missouri, warning residents of dangerous heat index values reaching up to 108 degrees.

The advisory took effect at noon today and will remain in place until 10:00 p.m. CDT this evening, according to the National Weather Service Kansas City/Pleasant Hill office.

Weather officials warn that hot temperatures combined with high humidity may cause heat-related illnesses throughout the affected areas.

Multiple Regions Under Advisory

The National Weather Service issued separate heat advisories for different zones within the region. Areas including portions of northeast Kansas and north central, northwest, and west central Missouri face heat index values up to 105 degrees during the same time period.

North central and northeast Missouri are also under a heat advisory with expected heat index values reaching 105 degrees from noon to 10:00 p.m. today.

Health Precautions Recommended

Weather forecasters emphasize the serious health risks posed by the combination of high temperatures and humidity levels. Heat index values measure how hot it feels when relative humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature.

The advisory covers a significant portion of the Kansas City metropolitan area and surrounding communities. Residents in the affected zones should take precautions against heat-related illness, particularly during the peak afternoon and evening hours.

All three heat advisories were issued simultaneously at 12:44 a.m. CDT on Monday by the National Weather Service office serving the Kansas City and Pleasant Hill areas.
