PATTONSBURG, MISSOURI β The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Grand River near Pattonsburg, predicting moderate flooding that will affect Gentry and Daviess Counties through Sunday morning.
The river stood at 20.2 feet as of 6:30 a.m. Friday and is forecast to rise above the 25-foot flood stage later this morning, reaching a peak of 31.1 feet by Friday evening, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill.
Flooding Timeline and Impacts
The flood warning remains in effect until 10:00 a.m. Sunday, June 7. Weather officials predict the river will fall below flood stage late Saturday morning and continue dropping to 3.4 feet by early Tuesday morning.
At the predicted peak of 31.1 feet, nearly all agricultural land and secondary roads in the Grand River floodplain will experience flooding. Low-lying farmland begins flooding when the river reaches 25 feet, while U.S. Highway 69 south of Pattonsburg faces potential closure if waters rise to 32 feet.
Recovery Forecast
Following the initial decline, the river is expected to rise again to 3.7 feet Tuesday evening before falling and remaining below flood stage. The National Weather Service issued the warning at 6:49 a.m. Friday.
Residents in the affected areas should monitor conditions closely and avoid driving through flooded roadways. The Weather Service emphasizes that just six inches of moving water can knock down an adult, while 12 inches can carry away a vehicle.
