FEC Complaint Filed Over Private Prison Company’s $250K Donation to Jordan-Linked Group
Watchdog group files FEC complaint after investigation reveals GEO Group’s $250,000 donation to super PAC tied to Ohio congressman came days after key vote.

COLUMBUS, OHIO β A campaign finance watchdog group has filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission after revelations that the nation’s largest private prison company donated $250,000 to a super PAC aligned with Ohio Republican U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan.
The complaint follows a report by POGO Investigates, the newsroom division of Project On Government Oversight, which uncovered the previously undisclosed contribution from GEO Group to the American Liberty Foundation.
According to the investigation, GEO Group made the donation on July 15, 2025, just 11 days after Jordan voted in favor of President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
Dark Money Contribution Uncovered
The $250,000 contribution from GEO Group, the largest private prison company in the United States, was discovered through what investigators described as a fluke discovery. Project On Government Oversight, which conducts “evidence-based investigations into government waste, fraud, and abuse,” uncovered the transaction during its research.
The timing of the donation has raised questions among campaign finance experts, given its proximity to Jordan’s vote on the controversial legislation.
Legislative Context
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which Jordan supported, included provisions that cut taxes for wealthy Americans while reducing healthcare and food assistance programs for low-income individuals. The legislation was a significant policy victory for the Trump administration during its second term.
The American Liberty Foundation, which received the donation, operates as a super PAC with ties to Jordan’s political operations. Such organizations can accept unlimited contributions from corporations and individuals but face restrictions on coordination with federal candidates.
Oversight and Transparency Concerns
The Federal Election Commission complaint, filed by the unnamed campaign finance watchdog group, seeks to address potential violations related to the disclosure and timing of the contribution. The case highlights ongoing concerns about “dark money” influences in federal elections and the role of private prison companies in political advocacy.
GEO Group has historically maintained significant lobbying operations in Washington, D.C., focusing on immigration enforcement and corrections policies that directly impact the company’s business model. The company operates detention facilities and correctional institutions under contracts with federal and state governments.
Jordan, who represents Ohio’s 4th Congressional District, has served in Congress since 2007 and currently holds a leadership position among House Republicans. His office has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the donation or the subsequent FEC complaint.
