Pennsylvania Senator Doug Mastriano nominated as ambassador to Slovakia
State Senator Doug Mastriano nominated by Trump for Slovak ambassadorship, will continue Pennsylvania Senate duties until confirmation.

HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA β State Senator Doug Mastriano has been nominated by President Donald Trump to serve as the United States ambassador to Slovakia, the Franklin County Republican announced on social media.
Mastriano, who ran unsuccessfully for Pennsylvania governor in 2022, said he will continue serving in the Pennsylvania Senate until a U.S. Senate confirmation hearing takes place.
“I am deeply honored and humbled by President Trump’s nomination to serve as United States Ambassador to the Slovak Republic,” Mastriano wrote in a post on X. “Upon Senate confirmation, I look forward to representing our nation abroad, strengthening the friendship between our two countries, and advancing the interests of the American people.”
Background on Mastriano’s Political Career
The nomination follows Mastriano’s prominent role as a Trump supporter after the 2020 election. Mastriano was a vocal advocate for Trump’s claims that the 2020 election was stolen, despite those claims being debunked.
According to the Pennsylvania Capital-Star, Mastriano pushed the Pennsylvania legislature to overturn the popular vote in the commonwealth and hosted Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani at a partisan state Senate Committee hearing in Gettysburg weeks after the 2020 election.
January 6 Capitol Events
Mastriano attended the January 6 rally that led to a violent riot at the U.S. Capitol and spent campaign money bussing supporters to Washington, D.C. that day, according to the report.
The senator’s nomination to the diplomatic post marks a shift from his role in Pennsylvania state politics to potential international service. If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Mastriano would represent American interests in Slovakia and work to strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations.
The nomination requires Senate confirmation before Mastriano can officially assume the ambassadorial role. Until that process is complete, he will continue his duties as a Pennsylvania state senator representing Franklin County.
