Dense Fog Advisory Affects Multiple Upper Michigan Counties
Thick fog blankets Michigan’s Upper Peninsula overnight, reducing visibility to dangerous levels across five counties with advisories lasting into Tuesday morning.

MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN β The National Weather Service has issued Dense Fog Advisories for multiple counties in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, with visibility reduced to one-quarter mile or less affecting thousands of residents.
The advisories were issued Sunday evening at 8:06 PM and 8:34 PM EDT by the National Weather Service Marquette office, covering Marquette, Delta, Alger, Luce, and northern and southern Schoolcraft counties.
Advisory Timeline and Areas
Marquette County faces dense fog conditions until 2:00 AM EDT on Tuesday, May 19. Delta County residents will experience similar conditions until 4:00 AM EDT.
Alger County’s advisory extends until 5:00 AM EDT, while both Luce County and northern Schoolcraft County will see dense fog persist until 6:00 AM EDT. Southern Schoolcraft County also remains under advisory until 6:00 AM EDT.
Travel Hazards Expected
Weather officials warn that the severely reduced visibility could create hazardous driving conditions throughout the affected areas. The fog is expected to limit visibility to one-quarter mile or less across all impacted counties.
The National Weather Service advises drivers to reduce speed, use low-beam headlights, and maintain extra distance between vehicles when traveling through the fog-affected regions.
Regional Impact
The widespread nature of the fog advisory affects a significant portion of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, spanning from the eastern counties near Lake Superior to areas further inland. The varying end times for different counties suggest the fog will lift gradually as Tuesday morning progresses.
Residents in the affected counties should expect continued poor visibility conditions through the early morning hours and plan accordingly for Tuesday morning commutes. The National Weather Service continues to monitor conditions and may update advisories as weather patterns change.
