RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA — Three people sustained injuries in a multi-vehicle collision on US-70 that prompted emergency response teams to close portions of the highway during the evening rush hour.

The accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on eastbound US-70 near the Rock Quarry Road exit, according to Raleigh police officials. Emergency medical services transported all three injured individuals to WakeMed Hospital for treatment.

Traffic backed up for several miles as first responders worked to clear the scene and investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Two lanes remained closed for approximately two hours while crews removed damaged vehicles and debris from the roadway.

Emergency Response

Raleigh Fire Department and Wake County EMS units arrived on scene within minutes of the initial 911 call. Paramedics evaluated multiple patients before determining that three required hospital transport for their injuries.

The severity of the injuries has not been disclosed by hospital officials, but police confirmed that none appeared to be life-threatening at the time of transport. No fatalities resulted from the collision.

Traffic Impact

The North Carolina Department of Transportation issued alerts advising motorists to seek alternate routes during the cleanup operation. Westbound traffic was not affected by the incident.

Backup extended from the crash site to the US-440 interchange as evening commuters encountered the sudden lane restrictions. Normal traffic flow resumed by approximately 7:45 p.m. after all lanes reopened.

Investigation Continues

Raleigh Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit is conducting an investigation into the cause of the collision. Officers have not released details about how many vehicles were involved or whether any citations will be issued.

Investigators are reviewing witness statements and examining the crash scene to determine what factors contributed to the accident. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information may be released as it becomes available.
