FULTON COUNTY, OHIO β€” Northwest Ohio is under multiple weather alerts as severe thunderstorms and flooding threats continue, with a Severe Thunderstorm Watch extended until 5:00 AM EDT Tuesday and flood watches in effect through Wednesday evening.

The National Weather Service Northern Indiana office issued Severe Thunderstorm Watch 118 early Tuesday morning, covering Fulton County in northwest Ohio until 5:00 AM EDT. The watch includes the cities of Archbold, Delta, Swanton, and Wauseon.

Concurrent flood watches remain active for portions of northwest Ohio, including Defiance, Fulton, Henry, and Williams counties, extending through Wednesday evening at 8:00 PM EDT, according to the National Weather Service.

Monday Evening Storm Activity

Multiple severe thunderstorm warnings were issued Monday evening across the region. A storm near Lima moved east at 45 mph, prompting warnings for Allen County until 8:15 PM EDT. The National Weather Service reported the storm had a history of producing wind gusts greater than 58 mph.

The severe weather affected locations including Lima, Fort Shawnee, Elida, Cairo, Harrod, Beaverdam, Westminster, Yoder, Hume, Slabtown, Gomer, Rousculp, and Kemp. Interstate 75 experienced impacts between mile markers 119 and 138.

Earlier Monday evening, storms in Defiance County prompted warnings until 8:15 PM EDT, with the severe thunderstorm located over Defiance moving northeast at 25 mph. Affected areas included Defiance, Napoleon, Holgate, Florida, Jewell, Brunersburg, Okolona, Ayersville, and Standley.

Ongoing Flood Concerns

The National Weather Service warns that excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas across the affected counties.

“Although water levels continue to fall in many areas, soils are saturated with areas of standing water still existing,” officials stated in the flood watch. “Chances for heavy rain increase tonight into Wednesday to bring the threat” of additional flooding.

The flood watch covers portions of northern Indiana, southwest Michigan, and northwest Ohio, including Defiance, Fulton, Henry, and Williams counties in Ohio. The watch extends from Monday evening through Wednesday evening.

Extended Weather Pattern

Severe Thunderstorm Watch 112 was issued Monday afternoon and remained in effect until 11:00 PM EDT Monday evening for multiple counties across the region. In Ohio, the watch included Allen, Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Paulding, Putnam, Van Wert, and Williams counties.

The extended watch covered cities including Antwerp, Archbold, Bluffton, Bryan, Columbus Grove, Continental, Defiance, Delta, Deshler, Edgerton, Hicksville, Leipsic, Liberty Center, Lima, Montpelier, Napoleon, Ohio City, Ottawa, Pandora, Paulding, Payne, Sherwood, Spencerville, Swanton, Van Wert, and Wauseon.

Previous storm activity on Sunday evening also generated severe thunderstorm warnings across the region, with storms producing 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail in some areas. Sunday’s warnings affected counties including Allen, De Kalb, and Steuben in Indiana, along with Branch and Hillsdale counties in Michigan, and Williams County in Ohio.
