COLUMBUS, OHIO β€” Internal Department of Homeland Security emails have revealed that a federal employee raised concerns about information used to justify the termination of Temporary Protected Status for Haiti, according to documents reported by the Dayton Daily News.

A U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services employee expressed concerns about the information that went into a report about Haiti’s conditions, which the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security cited to justify her decision to terminate Temporary Protected Status for the country.

Employee Claims Supervisor Forced Content Inclusion

An email dated September 26, 2025, from a USCIS official stated that her supervisor was “forcing” her to include a section in a report on Haiti about how TPS was a pull factor, according to the Dayton Daily News report by Cornelius Frolik.

The internal correspondence suggests there were disagreements within the federal agency about the content and conclusions being drawn in the Haiti assessment report.

TPS Termination Under Scrutiny

Temporary Protected Status is a federal program that provides temporary relief from deportation and work authorization for individuals from countries experiencing ongoing armed conflict, environmental disasters, or other extraordinary circumstances that prevent safe return.

The emails indicate potential internal conflicts over the data and analysis being used to support policy decisions affecting Haitian nationals currently in the United States under TPS designation.

The documentation raises questions about the decision-making process and whether political considerations may have influenced the technical assessment of conditions in Haiti that typically guide TPS determinations.
