Former Nebraska President Tried to Secure Job for Podcaster in Relationship
Records reveal former NU President Ted Carter recommended podcaster Krisanthe Vlachos for university positions during their admitted inappropriate relationship.

LINCOLN, NEBRASKA β Former University of Nebraska President Ted Carter attempted to secure employment for a podcaster with whom he later admitted having an “inappropriate relationship,” according to records released Wednesday by Nebraska Public Media News.
Carter resigned last month from his position as Ohio State University president, citing “an inappropriate relationship with someone seeking public resources to support her personal business.” The woman has been identified as podcaster Krisanthe Vlachos.
Job Recommendation at Research Institute
Records show that in April 2023, Carter recommended Vlachos for a position at the National Strategic Research Institute, which operates for the NU system in Omaha. Carter sent Vlachos’ resume to Rick Evans, executive director of the institute and a retired major general in the U.S. Air Force.
Evans responded that “her skills are probably best aligned to the Contracts and Business Operations Coordinator position you approved us to hire.” He noted the position would be based in Omaha and thanked Carter for the tip.
Carter replied that he believed Vlachos “is more than willing to relocate to Omaha.” It remains unknown whether Vlachos was ever formally considered for that position or any other role at NU.
Additional Employment Efforts
Carter also forwarded Vlachos’ resume to a member of the University of Nebraska Foundation on May 10, 2023, according to the email records.
The next documented communication between Carter and Vlachos through the university email system occurred in July 2023. Carter sent a brief message saying, “Sorry to be out of touch for a bit,” followed by his phone number, which was redacted from the released records.
University Response
The University of Nebraska stated it conducted a review of relevant records following the Ohio State University report released earlier this month. Several emails were discovered during this review and shared with media upon request.
“The University of Nebraska has reviewed emails and other records potentially relevant to the report released by the Ohio State University earlier this month,” the university said in a statement. “From this review, several emails were discovered and have been shared upon request from media. The university does not see need for further review at this time.”
Carter served as University of Nebraska president from 2020 to 2023 before departing for Ohio State University in January 2024. His tenure at OSU was cut short by his resignation last month due to the inappropriate relationship.
The records indicate Carter and Vlachos first met during a Veterans in Energy forum in Washington while Carter was serving at NU, according to Nebraska Public Media News.
