THREE RIVERS, MICHIGAN β€” The National Weather Service has extended a flood warning for the Saint Joseph River at Three Rivers until Sunday morning, with minor flooding currently occurring and expected to continue affecting Branch, Elkhart, and St. Joseph counties.

The warning, issued Tuesday at 10:21 p.m. EDT, remains in effect until April 26 at 8:00 a.m. EDT. At 9:45 p.m. EDT Wednesday, the river stage measured 7.7 feet, approaching the 8.0-foot level that triggers minor flooding impacts.

Flooding Impacts Expected

When the river reaches 8.0 feet, minor flooding will affect apartments near the river along Mechanic Street, the River Glen Condos on east Michigan Avenue, and basements of several homes along River Drive, according to the National Weather Service.

The flood warning is part of a regional weather event affecting multiple counties across Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio. The warning also covers the North Branch Elkhart River at Cosperville in Noble County, Indiana, and the Tiffin River at Stryker affecting Defiance, Fulton, and Williams counties in Ohio.

Regional Flooding Forecast

Minor flooding is forecast for all affected river systems in the warning area. The Elkhart River system, including areas near Goshen and Cosperville, and the Tiffin River are both expected to experience minor flooding conditions.

The National Weather Service Northern Indiana office is monitoring river levels and will continue to provide updates as conditions develop. Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to take necessary precautions and avoid driving through flooded roadways.
