NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE — Federal safety officials have announced a nationwide recall of 740,000 cookware pans sold at major retailers including Walmart and Costco due to serious burn hazards.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued the recall notice after receiving multiple reports of the pans’ handles breaking during use, causing users to suffer burns from hot contents and cookware surfaces. The recalled items were manufactured by Granite Stone and sold under the Granite Stone brand name.

According to the CPSC, consumers should immediately stop using the affected pans and contact the manufacturer for a full refund. The recalled products were sold nationwide from January 2019 through December 2023.

Injury Reports Prompt Safety Action

The recall affects Granite Stone nonstick frying pans and skillets in various sizes. Safety officials received at least 24 reports of handle failures, with seven consumers reporting burn injuries when the handles detached unexpectedly during cooking.

“The handle can break off during use, posing burn hazards to consumers,” the CPSC stated in its official recall notice. The agency emphasized that continued use of these pans presents an immediate safety risk.

The recalled pans feature a distinctive granite-textured coating and were sold in sizes ranging from 8 inches to 12 inches. They retail for approximately $30 to $60 depending on size and were available both in stores and online.

Consumer Response and Refunds

Customers who purchased the recalled pans can return them to their original point of purchase for a full refund, even without a receipt. Major retailers including Walmart, Costco, and other stores that sold the products are cooperating with the recall effort.

Granite Stone has established a dedicated recall hotline and website for consumers to report their products and arrange returns. The company is offering replacement products or full cash refunds to affected customers.

The CPSC advises consumers to check their cookware immediately and remove any matching products from use. Photos of the recalled pans are available on the agency’s website to help consumers identify affected products.

Safety Recommendations

Safety experts recommend that consumers inspect all cookware handles regularly for signs of wear, cracking, or loosening. Any cookware showing structural damage should be discontinued immediately to prevent injuries.

The recall notice applies specifically to Granite Stone branded pans with the model numbers listed in the official CPSC announcement. Consumers uncertain about their cookware should contact the manufacturer directly for verification.

This recall is one of the larger cookware safety actions taken this year, highlighting ongoing concerns about product durability and manufacturing standards in kitchen equipment sold through major retail channels.
